National TYC sponsoring symposium on “Faith and Culture” in
Regina
July 5, 2006 -- The traditional churches in North
America and Western Europe have been experiencing declining membership
and other significant challenges. The circumstances of the Ukrainian
Orthodox Church of Canada (UOCC) are no exception. In response to
these troublesome trends and to the recent experience of the UOCC,
the National Executive of the Ukrainian Self-Reliance Association
(USRA/TYC) has decided to sponsor educational symposia on various
aspects of our community and religious lives.
Last year the National USRA/TYC Executive sponsored a symposium
on the "Role of Laity in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church."
By all accounts, the symposium, the first of its kind in our community,
was a major success. To build on this success, it has been decided
to hold a second symposium on the theme of “Faith and Culture: Orthodox
Christian Life Today and the Challenges of Pluralism and Secularization.”
The symposium is scheduled for the weekend of August 18-20, 2006
in Regina and will focus on the relationship of faith and culture
in the UOCC.
Further information on the symposium is contained at http://www.usrl-cyc.org/TYCnational.htm,
from the Executive of local TYC Branches or by contacting the Secretary
of National USRA/TYC Executive, Dr.
Edward Klopoushak by phone at 306-789-6234 or by mail at 1130
Selo Place, Regina, SK S4S 7H7.
The National USRA/TYC Executive and national membership wish to
acknowledge the financial support that they have received for the
project from various funding agencies, organizations and individuals.
Without their support this most critically important symposium would
not be possible.
