Dance Saskatchewan Inc. announces a national search for its new Artistic Director of Dare To Dance

January 24, 2007 -- Dance Saskatchewan Inc., located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is a 28-year-old provincial dance service organization committed to the advancement of dance. For the past fourteen years they have produced and presented Dare to Dance -- a celebration of the very best in Saskatchewan dance talent featuring a diverse range of dance styles and representation from urban, rural and cultural dance roots.

The Artistic Director will be hired for a six- to eight-week contract culminating in the performance set to take place in Saskatoon's premiere theatre on Saturday, October 6, 2007. In addition, a pre-show will be taken on the road to a rural community one week prior to the gala showcase.

Qualifications

  • Successful experience in staging, production and choreography in a large show setting
  • Ability to work with dancers of different genres and various levels of dance background and training
  • Must hold Canadian citizenship

Duties

  • Assumes overall responsibility for selection and rehearsal of all selected group pieces
  • Plans and implements effective rehearsal techniques that offers all dancers the opportunity to expand their dance knowledge and stage experience
  • Auditions, rehearses and motivates the selected members of both the Dare to Dance Company and Young Company
  • Inspires Saskatchewan dancers to be all that they can
  • Recommends and selects Guest Artist(s) and Guest Choreographers
  • Appoints Costume Designers, Rehearsal Master and Stage Manager
  • Directs all aspects of light, sound and design
  • Works with a Marketing Team to design and implement marketing strategy
  • Supports the Board of Directors in achieving stated goals and objectives
